However, salt is becoming more important in the culinary world as more people discover the amazing variety of tastes, colours and textures available. We carry standard sea salt and kosher salt, but our exotic artisanal salts from France and Hawaii will forever change the way you think about this humble ingredient.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSalt is simply a mineral composed of chlorine and sodium. All salt is the by-product of evaporation, either in salt mines or in the sea. The colour and texture of salt depend on the type of salt deposit and the way the crystals are processed during evaporation. Salts can also have varying levels of other minerals, which are naturally present in the deposits. Different textures can lead to different levels of “saltiness” and will affect the flavour and consistency of your food. Different colours add visual impact to a dish.\u003c\/p\u003e","published_at":"2018-03-24T06:47:36-06:00","sort_order":"alpha-asc","template_suffix":"","disjunctive":true,"rules":[{"column":"type","relation":"equals","condition":"Salts"},{"column":"tag","relation":"equals","condition":"Salts"}],"published_scope":"global","image":{"created_at":"2018-03-26T14:21:52-06:00","alt":"","width":1600,"height":1600,"src":"\/\/silkroadspices.ca\/cdn\/shop\/collections\/Specialty_Salts_collection.jpg?v=1522095712"}}]

Sea salt is created by evaporating seawater until you're left with salt crystals. It is generally less dense than table salt, meaning it tastes a bit less salty. Sea salt does not have additives normally found in table salt like iodine or anti-caking agents. We sell our sea salt in three different textures: fine, which is similar to table salt, coarse, which are larger crystals and are good for use in meat rubs, and extra-coarse which is ideal for using in a salt mill.
